The Big Dot sights are different because they don't use rear dots, a u shaped rear sight, or anything really that standard sights use for sight alignment. XS came up with a new front dot, actually a two-dot system, and a new rear sight design that allows you to sight immediately.
The rear sight is V-shaped to the center with a straight vertical sight line and the two-dot front sight allows you to change your point of impact by choosing which dot you use to aim with.
